Quo Warranto petition to be withdrawn

The Supreme Court was today informed that 122 parliamentarians who filed a writ petition in Court of Appeal against Mahinda Rajapaksa being functioning as Prime Minister are expecting to withdraw the concerned petition.

Accordingly, an appeal petition filed by Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa challenging the Court of Appeal Interim Order that restrained him from functioning as the Prime Minister was today fixed for March 14 by Supreme Court.

When the petition came up before Supreme Court two-judge-bench comprising Justice Buwaneka Aluvihare and Justice Murdu Fernando, President’s Counsel K. Kanag-iswaran appearing for the respondents including UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe informed court that his clients have sought instructions to withdraw the original writ petition filed in Court of Appeal and they were in a process of collecting signatures in this regard.
