Case against Ali Roshan fixed for February 21

The case filed against Samarappulige Niraj Roshan alias Ali Roshan and six others for allegedly keeping four elephants in their possession without valid permits was today fixed for February 21 by Colombo Permanent High Court.

When the case came up before Trial-at-bar bench comprising High Court Judges Sampath Abeykoon (President), Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne, the defence raised preliminary objection regarding the indictments complaining that Permanent High Court has no jurisdiction to hear this case.

Defence counsel Anuja Premaratne PC  contended that Permanent High Court has no jurisdiction to hear cases which had been filed under Fauna and Flora Ordinance.

The Attorney General will make his reply to the preliminary objections on next hearing date.
