The Special Crimes Investigation Unit of the Mirihana Police took into custody a suspect for stealing mobile phones of some train passengers.
The suspect was identified as ‘Manawaduge Krishantha’ alias ‘Kira’, an Island Re-convicted Criminal (IRC).
Police investigations revealed that the suspect had stolen nearly 50 smart phones from train travellers.
From interrogations, the Police were able to locate 45 mobile phones which had been sold by the suspect to several people in Dehiwala.
Mirihana Police handed over the suspect to the Crime Branch of the Mount Lavinia Police.
He was to be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Courts yesterday.
Investigations are continuing.
