No maize imported for Thriposha - Health Ministry

No space given from the Cabinet paper to import maize from foreign countries to manufacture Thriposha, Health Ministry spokesman said.

According to the spokesman, no maize imported to manufacture Thriposha and not be imported in future. Sri Lanka Thriposha Limited Chairman Ms. B.G.S.Gunatilleke assured this. She said some claims made by some politicians are baseless.

Annually Sri Lanka Thriposha Limited needs 12,000 metric tons of maize and 6000 metric tons of soya beans in order to manufacture the total Thriposha requirement of the country. The local company had been offered the tender after following the relevant procedure, he said.

It is assured that only local maize suppliers can submit tenders. The main objective is assisting the financial status of local maize farmers, he added.
