Mawanella vandals further remanded

The 14 suspects remanded in connection with the damage caused to Buddha Statues in Mawanella and surrounding areas were further remanded till February 13.

They were produced before the Mawanella magistrate and district judge Upul Rajakaruna yesterday.

The magistrate and district judge granted permission to the CID to investigate the bank accounts and telephone discussion recording of the suspects. He also ordered police to send the stock of detonators taken into custody to the Naranbedda STF camp to be destroyed.

The magistrate and district Judge issued these orders following submissions and a request made by the OIC Inspector Marasinghe.

The CID, Mawanella police and the Kegalle special investigation unit supported the prosecution. All lawyers present in court supported the prosecution.
