Man killed by trap gun while hunting

A cattle owner was killed when a trap gun went off in Galenbindunuwewa in Anuradhapura on Tuesday.

Police said the cattle owner had faced the accident while he was hunting in the jungle.

He had entered the Ruwewa reserve in search of wild animals.

He received severe injuries and was immediately admitted to Anuradhapura Government Teaching Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries after a few minutes upon admission to hospital.

Galenbindunuwewa Police had arrested three people for setting trap guns in the area. The suspects were granted personnel bail worth Rs. 100,000 each after they were produced before the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court by Galenbindunawewa Police.

The postmortem related to the deceased was conducted by the Judicial Medical Officer of the Anuradhapura Hospital.

The case will be heard on February 7 at Kahatagasdigiliya Magistrate’s Court.

Police are investigating.
