LATEC Managing Director released from a case

Businessman Ravi Wettasinghe who had served as the Managing Director of LATEC bus company was yesterday ordered to be acquitted and released from a case by the Colombo High Court.

The Attorney General had filed indictments against Ravindra Buddhadasa Wettasinghe for allegedly defrauding Don Anthony Rohan of Kandana, a company director of Rs.10 million on or around September 17, 2005.

High Court Judge Vikum Kaluarachchi made this order even without calling defence evidence after taking into consideration an expert opinion presented by the Government Examiner of Questioned Documents pertaining to a document which revealed a signature in a key document in the case was not that of Ravi Wettasinghe.

President’s Counsel Upul Jayasuriya appearing for the accused had called for an expert opinion from the Government Examiner of Questioned Documents regarding the authenticity of the document in which the prosecution highly relied on.

Through this indictments, the Attorney General had further alleged that the accused committed this offence on the promise of providing the complainant a house with a plot of land in Nawala.
