Hold provincial councils elections without any delay - MP Dayasiri

Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) General Secretary MP Dayasiri Jayasekara today requested the government to hold provincial councils elections without any delay in order to ensure country’s democracy.

Addressing the media today at the SLFP Headquarters, Jayasekara said that the SLFP is planning to take all possible measures to force the government to hold provincial council elections.

He said that the President has already submitted a Cabinet paper seeking approval to hold elections to the nine provincial councils on a single day before May 31 this year.

MP Jayasekara further called on the Government to bring in a new bill to the Parliament to hold elections under the previous system and all the MPs will support to pass the bill.

He asked the government not to delay the holding of the elections using different excuses and there is no need to worry about getting a two-thirds majority to pass this bill.

Addressing the occasion Deputy Mayor of Dehiwala – Mount Lavinia Municipal Council Keerthi Udawatte urged all SLFPers who left the party to be reunited to strengthen the SLFP claiming that the country needs a left wing democratic political leadership.

He further said that President Maithripala Sirisena has never tried to use his party leadership to take personal revenges and he always try to strengthen the party.

Former SLFP Provincial Council member Rehensiri Waragoda and Bulathsinhala Electorate SLFP Organizer Thusitha Kularatne also addressed the occasion.
