State Council of China meets NEC

Representatives of China’s Council of the People’s Republic of China met with National Economic Council of Sri Lanka on last Friday, Nov 23rd  at the Presidential Secretariat to explore how China and Sri Lanka could increase development cooperation further. The State Council is the chief administrative authority of the People’s Republic of China. The State Council of the People’s Republic of China, which was represented by three counselors, Mr. Fang Ning, Ms. Deng Xiaohong, Ms. Deng Xiaonan and other high ranking officers of the Council, commended the progress Sri Lanka has achieved on development including the successful completion of strategic infrastructure projects during the last decade. Outlining the One Belt One Road Initiative, the counselors underscored the opportunities for Sri Lanka to become a strong player in the region’s economy by utilizing its strategic location. Professor Lalith Samarakoon, Secretary-General and Chief Economist of National Economic Council of Sri Lanka highlighted prioritized areas of development for Sri Lanka including infrastructure development, export-oriented industries, inbound tourism and sustainable and profitable agriculture. National Economic Council of Sri Lanka and the State Council of People’s Republic of China will collaborate to identify projects and initiatives for Chinese investments.
