Monsoon rains fill up Yan Oya

With the beginning of monsoon rains, Yan Oya reservoir in Horowpothana in Anuradhapura is being filled up. The Yan Oya reservoir is to be the largest reservoir in Anuradhapura. The capacity of the water source, has passed the Yan Oya river level at Pamburugaswewa close to Wahalkada and the length of the main dam is about 3 kms.

It is planned to cultivate 50,000 acres of paddy lands both in Yala and Maha with the waters of the Yan Oya reservoir. The government has spent Rs. 39,000 million for the realization of the Yan Oya reservoir.

The Chinese CAMC Engineering company is the contractor for the Yan Oya reservoir’s headwork component.
