Consideration of FR petitions against PresidentĂ¢€™s decision postponed
The consideration of the fundamental rights petitions filed against the dissolution of the parliament has been postponed, stated Ada Derana reporter.

Accordingly, the hearing of the petitions will continue again from tomorrow morning (13), at the Supreme Court.

Thirteen fundamental rights petitions were filed at the Supreme Court stating that the President’s order to dissolve the parliament is illegal.

The petitions have been filed by political parties including United National Party (UNP), Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) and the All Ceylon People’s Congress, as well as other parties such as the Centre for Policy Alternatives (CPA), Attorney Aruna Laksiri and member of Elections Commission Prof. S. R. H. Hoole.

All petitions were taken up for hearing by the Supreme Court this afternoon (12). The Attorney General was also present at the hearing.

The said petitions were heard under the Chief justice Nalin Perera and Supreme Court judges Priyantha Jayawardena and Prasanna Jayawardena.

Reportedly, 10 out of the 13 petitions have already been taken up for hearing today.
