The Expressway leading to the Mattala Airport, another fanfare project of the Rajapaksa regime which gulped more than 270 million US dollars, is totally deserted of vehicular traffic almost day and night. It has become a haunt for wild elephants criss-crossing the Expressway to move from one habitat to another as proved by this pachyderm jumping the protective fence on one side to move onto the other side.
