Couple die, four injured in tipper-van collision

A couple died and four others including their daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons were injured when the van in which they were travelling collided with a tipper at Kalalpitiya, Pasyala on the Colombo Kandy road around 1.30 a.m on October 7.

The injured were admitted to the Wathupitiwala hospital.

The deceased were identified as S.M. Dissanayake (73) of Makkanigoda, Mirigama, a former CWE employee and his wife Indrawathi Wickramatunga Dissanayake (72), a former employee of the Sri Lanka Tea Board.

They had died on admissions to the Wathupitiwala hospital. Their daughter Gayathri Madusha Dissanayake (35) an employee of the Bank of Ceylon Mirigama branch, her husband Channa Keerithi Bandara (37) and one of their children were later transferred to the Colombo National Hospital for further treatment

The seven year old boy is receiving treatment at the Wathupitiwala hospital.

Police said the family had been returning home after attending wedding at Panadura when the accident occurred. The tipper driver is in police custody.Veyangoda inquirer into sudden deaths Chandrasiri Marasinghe conduct the inquest into the deaths yesterday.
