Arjuna Ranatunga’s security guard arrested over shooting

A security guard of former Minister Arjuna Ranatunga was arrested in connection with a shooting where three persons were injured within the premises of Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) at Dematagoda today afternoon, Police said.

The injured persons have been admitted to the National Hospital. The incident had occurred due to a tense situation which arose when former Minister Arjuna Ranatunga visited the premises.

Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara said a guard of former Minster Ranatunga had fired the gunshots. Later Police were deployed at the CPC premises to control the situation.

Dematagoda Police are conducting investigations.

Meanwhile, Parliamentarian Thenuka Vidanagamage told a news briefing yesterday the UPFA will request the Inspector General of Police to conduct an impartial inquiry into the incident.
