Army Intelligence Officer Lieutenant Colonel Eranda Peiris was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday in connection with the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda.
The CID had summoned Peiris for questioning yesterday afternoon after informing the Army. He had later been arrested.CID sources said the Army Intelligence Officer will be produced in the Fort Magistrate’s Courts today.
Earlier too several Army Intelligence officers were arrested in connection with the Ekneligoda disappearance.Ekneligoda, a journalist for the news website LankaeNews, was abducted on January 24 2010, days before the 2010 presidential elections. He had reported on alleged corruption among some key members of the former regime, according to his wife, Sandhya Ekneligoda.
