Bail for motorcyclist who knocked down PM’s Security Officers

A motorcyclist had knocked down two Security Officers of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in Rajagiriya last Wednesday.

The injured security personnel are receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital. According to an eye witness, the incident occurred when the Prime Minister had come on to the Rajagiriya road to get in to his vehicle having attended the funeral of a relative of MP Kumara Welgama.

It was revealed that police officers on duty at the time had signalled the motor cyclist to stop.

But,the motor cyclist had ignored Police orders and proceeded knocking down the Police officers.

The rider too subsequently fell off his motorbike.

Officers attached to the Rajagiriya Police Station had arrested the motorcyclist.

Investigations revealed that the motorcyclist, a 20-year-old resident of U.E. Perera Mawatha in Rajagiriya did not possess a valid licence.

The motorcyclist was produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Courts Hulftsdorp on Thursday (27) and was later released on Rs.500,000 personal bail.

Rajagiriya Police are investigating.
