Marawila hotel attacked over personal dispute

A hotel in Marawila owned by a German group was attacked by a local gang, at around 7.30 pm on August 20.

Police say the six-member gang, including one woman, was led by a person against whom there have been several complaints and criminal charges in the Marawila Police Division, in recent months.

The gang entered the hotel premises on two motorcycles and refused to be stopped by the hotel security guard. They destroyed a recently built parapet wall.

Police say the owning company of the hotel had earlier taken legal action on another matter against the gang leader who is a Marawila businessman exporting coconut products to Germany.

Several court cases, including criminal cases, are also reportedly pending in the Marawila District Court against the local businessman.
