Forty one dengue deaths, 36,000 patients reported

Forty one dengue patients had died by yesterday (August 23). A total of 35,944 dengue patients had been reported from all parts of the country.

There is a significant decrease in dengue patients compared with the same period of last year, the Epidemiologists said.

According to the epidemiologists, the highest number of dengue cases totalling 6,937 had been reported from the Colombo district. The second highest number, 4,156 had been reported from the Batticaloa district. The third highest number of dengue cases, 3,619 had been reported from the Gampaha district.

The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) reported 1,788 dengue cases during the same period. The other parts of the Colombo district recorded 5,149 dengue cases.The total number of dengue cases reported from the Western Province is 12,762, epidemiologists said.

Medical experts advice the public to seek medical treatment without delay for any type of fever without applying home remedies.All fever patients need rest and they should not attend work or school.

All fever patients should take Paracetamol only. All the other medications, especially Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) such as Ibuprofen cause Dengue hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) can become fatal and should be avoided, they said.
