Environment Ministry Secretary calls on Dr. Ban Ki-moon

Sri Lankan Ambassador to South Korea Manisha Gunasekera, Environment Ministry Secretary Anura Dissanayake, GGGI Chair of the Council Dr. Ban Ki-moon, Deputy GGGI Director-General Ambassador Jenny Kim and Independent Consultant of Environment Ministry Chris Dharmakirti.

Mahaweli Development and Environment Ministry Secretary Anura Dissanayake called on Dr. Ban Ki-moon, President of the Assembly and Chair of the Council of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) at the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Sustainable Development, Yonsei University in Seoul, on July 17.

The meeting entailed discussion on Sri Lanka’s commitment to sustainable development as well as cooperation with the GGGI, to mobilise climate finance for climate resilient projects. During discussions, Secretary Dissanayake handed over a personal communication from President Maithripala Sirisena to Dr. Ban Ki-moon, who conveyed his compliments to President Sirisena through Secretary Dissanayake and looked forward to closer cooperation between Sri Lanka and the GGGI in the future. He also commended President Sirisena’s Blue Green Development Strategy for Sri Lanka, which encourages low-emission sustainable development.

Sri Lankan Ambassador to South Korea Manisha Gunasekera, Deputy GGGI Director-General Ambassador Jenny Kim and Independent Consultant of Mahaweli Development and Environment Ministry Chris Dharmakirti also participated in the meeting.

Secretary Dissanayake was in Seoul to participate in the CTCN Regional Forum for National Designated Entities in Asia and the Pacific, which was held from July 15 to 18. The GGGI is a treaty-based international, inter-governmental organisation based in South Korea, dedicated to supporting and promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies.
