UN condemns conflicts in Sri Lanka

 

The United Nations in Sri Lanka condemned the recent conflicts which erupted in Sri Lanka, today.

In a statement, the UN in Sri Lanka said that they have urged authorities to take immediate action against perpetrators and to ensure that appropriate measures are swiftly taken to restore normalcy in affected areas.

Furthermore the UN urged authorities and all citizens to ensure that the rule of law is upheld, human rights are protected and security and safety is ensured for all.

A tense situation erupted on Monday due to a clash between two groups in Teldeniya.

Several arrests were made.

A curfew was imposed and schools in the Kandy district were closed until further notice, earlier today.
