A school bus driver was recently arrested for the statutory rape of a 16-year-old girl and later, was produced before Thambuttegama Magistrate Ramila Nishani, who ordered the suspect to be remanded until March 27.
The suspect is a 32-year-old father of two and a resident of the Nochchiyagama area. It was revealed that the girl had been having an affair with the suspect for one year. Police discovered the couple at a house after the girl's father had lodged a complaint stating that she had gone missing.
Further investigations revealed that the suspect had previously had sexual relations with two other schoolgirls of the same area as well.
Investigations are continuing.
