Inclement weather to continue, drought hits Puttalam, Kurunegala

The Meteorology Department has predicted that wet weather will continue with showers or thundershowers at times in the Uva and Eastern provinces and in Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts.

It was predicted that fairly heavy falls (above 75 mm) could be expected at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Ampara districts. Despite the inclement weather, many parts of the Island are still facing drought like conditions, according to the Disaster Management Centre.

Based on the situation report as of yesterday, Puttalam and Kurunegala in the North Western province have been hit by droughts. A total of 305,321 are reportedly affected by the harsh drought like conditions. According to the DMC, no deaths or damages are reported thus far.
