New microchip passport for Sri Lanka

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe yesterday made an inspection visit to De La Rue Lanka Company based in Biyagama FTZ. The company which prints both local and foreign currencies is a joint venture between the Government of Sri Lanka and De La Rue. The company which prints both local and foreign currencies is a joint venture between the Government of Sri Lanka and De La Rue. Speaking to the media after the visit the Prime Minister said that the De La Rue will also begin printing the Sri Lankan passport with new security features in a few months. The Premier said that the new passport will include a microchip which contains personal data of the passport holder including a photograph and fingerprint. State Defence Minister Ruwan Wijewardene and British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, James Dauris accompanied him.
