Van transporting explosives seized, driver arrested

A team of STF officers from the Kurunegala, Rathgalle STF camp seized a stock of explosives being transported in a van without a permit and arrested the van driver and the vehicle at Malkanduwawa. The arrest was made on November 17 night in a special operation carried out to combat underworld activities.

After interrogating the driver, the STF officers raided four shops in Heraliyawala and seized a stock of explosives and detonators and arrested four suspects.

Among the seized items were 1,888 detonators, 1,489 manual detonators, 398 sticks of water gel, 13 kilos of gun powder used for rock blasting, 795 metres of service cord and 250 kilos of gunpowder.

The suspects were handed over to Kurunegala police along with the seized items.

The raid was carried out following information received by STF Zonal Commander ASP L.K.A. Rohana
