Railway strike called off

The Railway Trade Unions called off their strike yesterday following a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday.

Several decisions were taken at the meeting including to appointment of a committee to create a new salary structure for all grades within the next three months.

A joint memorandum by the Civil Aviation Ministry and Prime Minister’s Office will be submitted to Cabinet to rectify the salary anomalies of engine drivers, railway guards, station masters, railway controllers and railway operation management officers.

Another Committee was appointed to forward proposals on modernising the Railways Department and making it more efficient.
