Elephants destroy two houses, crops

Elephants had destroyed two houses and crops of farmers in Moneragala and Naigala Ara in the Wellawaya Divisional Secretariat area, on Saturday.

According to villagers, there were 110 village dwellers in Naigala Ara, but due to the elephant attacks, many have shifted to other villagers and now only 65 villagers remain in the village.

The victims were identified as K. P. Sunil Shantha and M. L. Wickrama. Their family members had narrowly escaped the recent attack.

Coconut trees, mango trees and many other crops were destroyed. They told the

Daily News that they lead their daily lives in fear and that the appropriate authorities pay no attention to their continuous appeal.
