‘Sri Lanka Next’, A Blue Green Era, conference and exhibition

The second ‘Sri Lanka Next,’ A Blue Green Era, conference and exhibition will be held on October 16 and 17 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena.

The Mahaweli Development and Environment Ministry is hosting the conference and exhibition to promote sustainable development in Sri Lanka through Blue Green Economic initiatives, Mahaweli Development and Environment Ministry Secretary Anura Dissanayake said.

He was addressing the media yesterday at the Government Information Department.

He said the Ministry has launched the programme to ensure Sri Lanka’s low carbon pathways to reduce global warming with respect to the Paris Agreement.

“A major challenge faced by the world today is the rise of global warming which has a direct link with the activities of the people. Since it is estimated that the world population will be increased by another 2 billion by the year 2050, it has become absolutely necessary to control a further rise of world warming due to activities of the increased population,” Dissanayake said.

“Therefore, it is important to take necessary measures to utilise limited natural resources of the world for a sustainable production and consumption for the benefit of future generations,” he said.
