President discusses activities of term-expired PCs

DSs instructed to continue services uninterrupted

President Maithripala Sirisena instructed the Divisional Secretaries to continue services rendered by the Provincial Councils to the public without any hindrance even though their official terms ended.

The President gave the instructions at a meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (16) to discuss the future activities of term-expired Provincial Councils.

The President discussed with the officials the issues they faced when they carry out duties of the North Central, Sabaragamuwa and Eastern Provincial Councils, of which the official terms have already ended.

The President pointed out the need to ensure that other institutions do not control the responsibilities vested with the Provincial Councils, and instructed the officials the ways they should use the allocated funds for the Provincial Councils effectively.

President Sirisena instructed the officials to focus specifically on development projects being carried out in respective areas with local and foreign funds. He advised to carry out them under the guidance of the respective Governors.

Minister Faiszer Musthapha, Governors, Secretary to the President Austin Fernando and officials participated.
