An elderly farmer died when he was attacked by an elephant on Friday at the Periya Salambaikeny paddy area in Majeed Pura, Malwatta-03 in the Sammanthurai Police division.
The victim was identified as Kanthapper Kanesapillai, 61, of the Veeramunai area, a father of five.
The elephant had attacked him when he was at his paddy field. Investigations are continuing.
