Minimum standards for medical education soon

Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne has agreed to the minimum standards for medical education proposed by the committee appointed to the task, Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) Registrar Dr. Terence De Silva said.

According to Dr. Silva, relevant legal and other procedures (including further discussions) in introducing the minimum standards of medical education will be done with the coordination with the Health Ministry Secretary. SLMC member Dr. Upul Gunasekara said discussions would be held shortly in connection with introducing the minimum standards.”

The standards can be introduced soon, may be in a month.

The current minimum standards (two credit passes and one simple pass) for medical education will be removed.

The SLMC will decide the standards,”he said. Health Minister Senaratne had stated that the minimum standard should match with the international minimum standards.
