Magampura Port workers urge to make them permanent

A ‘Devakannalawwa’ was held at Kataragama Maha Devalaya by Magampura Port workers on Sunday to invoke blessings upon the workers with regard to absorbing them to Sri Lanka Port Authority.

Magampura Employees Union Secretary Gayan Sandaruwan said 417 workers serving at Magampura Port have requested from the government to absorb them to Sri Lanka Ports Authority. However, the government had rejected the request.

Sandaruwan said Magampura Port belongs to the Ports Authority and some employees were absorbed to Sri Lanka Ports Authority.

He added that their service was about five years and only 280 workers were made permanent. He requested authorities make permanent those who had served for over two years.The secretary said they had sent seven letters to the minister concerned to absorb them to Ports Authority but even an acknowledgement was not received.
