Alms giving to 1,000 monks at Temple Trees

An alms giving to 1000 Buddhist monks was held at Temple Trees on Wednesday. Picture shows Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe offering Ata Pirikara to the Anunayake Thera of Malwatta Chapter Most Ven. Niyangoda Vijithasiri Thera. The Mahanayake of the Amarapura Chapter Most Ven. Kotugoda Dhammawasa Thera, Ministers Sajith Premadasa, Daya Gamage, Gamini Jayawickrema Perera and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake were present.

An alms-giving for 1,000 Bikkhus who arrived from all corners of the country was held at Temple Trees on Wednesday to invoke blessings on the country, the President, the Prime Minister and the Government.

Delivering an Anushasana, the Mahanayake Thera of Kotte Sri Kalayani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha, Most Ven. Dr. Ittapana Dhammalankara Thera said laymen cannot give orders to monks asking them not to participate in any event and only Maha Nayake Theras have the authority to do that.

The Thera was commenting on statements made by certain Parliamentarians asking Bikkus not to participate for the alms-giving held at Temple Trees claiming it was a bribe.

Malwatte Anunayake Thera Ven.Rajakeeya Panditha Niyangoda Vijitha Siri Thera and Anu Nayake of Amarapura Chapter Most Ven. Kotugoda Dhammawasa Thera also delivered Anushasanas on the occasion.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Ministers, Parliamentarians and officials participated.
