Health Ministry to slash prices of eye lenses

The Health Ministry will make arrangements to bring down the prices of eye lenses for cataract surgeries, Health Ministry sources said.

According to the sources, the ministry will bring down the high prices of eye lenses to offer a relief for thousands of needy patients who undergo cataract surgeries. This will be the first step of bringing down the prices of surgical items, the sources said.

Minister Dr. Senaratne received complaints of high prices of eye lenses for cataract surgeries. Some lences imported from India for Rs. 6,000, are sold for Rs. 25,000 or more to patients, the sources said.
