A person who suddenly fell ill while participating in the 1,000 metre race at the Provincial Sports Meet at the Nagoda Royal College Grounds, yesterday was admitted to the Nagoda hospital.
He was pronounced dead on admission.
He was identified as Udugama Gamage Premaratne Gunsinghe (50) of Samagigama, Udugama, a labourer attached to the Nagoda Pradeshiya Sabha.
The body was sent to the Karapitiya hospital for an autopsy. Nagoda Police is investigating.
