All Island Farmers’ Federation threatens action

The All Island Farmers’ Federation yesterday threatened to converge on Rural Economic Affairs Minister P.Harrison’s residence and his ministry premises demanding to immediately halt the issuing Government paddy stocks. Addressing a press conference in Dambulla, All Island Farmers’ Federation National Organiser Namal Karunathilake charged that there were massive irregularities when selling the paddy stocks of the Paddy Marketing Board.

Therefore, the federation calls for the holding of a proper inquiry by halting the issue of paddy. He said if this request was unheeded they would converge and lay seige at all state owned paddy warehouses,subject minister Harrison’s residence and the ministry.

Those who spoke at the press conference even brought two bags of rice and open them and commented on the quality of rice of small and large scale rice mill owners.
