“Video games are bad and a waste of time”. This is probably a sentence that you have heard parents in Sri Lanka tell their children. You yourself might have had this said to you. But what if you were told that you can make a career out of playing video games? Well, that’s where the Inter-school eSports Championship 2018 comes into play (literally).
What is the Inter-school eSports Championship 2018?

Organized by GamerLK with Dialog Gaming, the Inter-school eSports Championship 2018 is open to all school students. Students will have the opportunity to represent their schools and compete in a number of single player and multi-player titles. 2017 saw Gateway College emerging victorious. Organized for the third consecutive year, the Inter-school eSports Championship 2018 will be held on 22nd and 23rd September 2018 at Trace Expert City, Maradana.

A number of changes have been made to the lineup of the games for the Inter-school eSports Championship 2018. The latest additions include Special Forces 2 for the Team games and Injustice 2, Tekken 7 and Fortnite for PC as individual titles.
Other titles include Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare,CS: GO, Dota 2, League of Legends, and Overwatch. As for the individual games, you can take your pick from Injustice 2, Tekken 7, Fortnite, Project CARS and FIFA 18.
But wait, there’s more
In addition to these games, there will also be a number of individual titles for mobile games. These are Clash Royale, Fruit Ninja and Subway Surfers. Further, as we saw at the previous year’s Inter-school eSports Championship, the Women’s Championship will also take place.
As per the title, the Women’s Championship is open to female students from mixed-schools or girls-only schools and are open to all ages. For the first time, the Women’s Championship at the Inter-school eSports Championship 2018 will be awarded its own Championship trophy. The titles for the Women’s championship are Mario Cart 8 on the Nintendo Switch, and NFS Most Wanted on PC. The tournament schedule for the Women’s Championship is yet to be released, but you can click here to be updated about it.
Apart from the games, there will also be a number of educational workshops as well
There will also be a number of educational workshops as well. These would be held alongside the Championship in partnership with ICTA and FITIS. The workshops will cover a number of topics such as these workshops will showcase sessions held across the two days covering a variety of topics in the IT industry. How do I register for the ISEC 2018?
Registrations for multiplayer team-based games will be carried out on a first come first serve basis. Registrations can be done by clicking here. An entrance fee of LKR 300 would apply for 2 multiplayer titles. So, a team of 5 can pay Rs. 300 and take part in Call of Duty 4 and DOTA 2.
However, if they wish to take part in an additional title, they would have to pay another LKR 300. Single player titles would be LKR 300 for all titles. So a student can pay LKR 300 and take part in any number of single-player titles.
