Gamers get ready to battle it out at the IeSF Sri Lanka Qualifier

eSports in Sri Lanka is growing at a slow but steady pace. From the number of tournaments held yearly, to the sheer number of up and coming gamers in Sri Lanka, it’s just about time for Sri Lanka to make its presence known in the international stadiums as well.

If you recall, a team of Sri Lankan eSports athletes took part in the qualifiers for the 2018 South Asian Games. Here, Amruth “AmyPie” Alfred qualified and will be representing Sri Lanka playing Starcraft 2.

Sri Lanka is making a name in eSports

While this is indeed a proud moment for Sri Lanka, there’s more to come. Have you heard of the World eSports Championship? Well, if you haven’t then, you should know that it is organized by the International eSports Federation (IESF) together with the Chinese Taipei eSports Association (CTeSA) in the city of Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Why is this important?

Well, the World eSports Championship 2018 marks 10 years of the eSports tournament being held. Sri Lanka is all geared up to take part in this as well. As such, the IeSF Sri Lanka Qualifier organized by GamerLK will take place on the 25th and 26th of August 2018. This will be a ranked tournament. This means that anyone who wins in this qualifier would go on to national rankings and earn a spot on the leaderboards for Sri Lankan eSports.

There would be three major titles for the qualifiers. They are League of Legends, Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Tekken 7. All games will be played on PC. While League of Legends and CS:GO would consist of a 5 player team, Tekken 7 would be a 1v1 elimination qualifier.

What should I know about the IeSF Sri Lanka Qualifier?

For starters, if you already didn’t know, then you should know that the IeSF Sri Lanka Qualifier is governed by the GamerLK General Competitive Rules. In addition, the qualifier is also governed by the respective GamerLK Ranked Competitive Rules for each title as well

In addition, due to unfortunate circumstances, there are a number of players who have been blacklisted from GamerLK Ranked tournaments. As such, these players will not be able to take part in any GamerLK tournaments for a certain period of time. You can click here for more details.
