The first time we attended this event, we wrote three articles about it. The second time we attended it, we ended up writing six. Welcome to Disrupt Asia. The event which is organized by the ICTA and is known as, “Sri Lanka’s Premier Startup Conference and Innovation Festival.” And on the 11th of August 2018, we’ll see the third edition of it taking place inside Trace Expert City.
What can we expect this year?
Disrupt Asia 2018 is expected to stay true to its theme of promoting entrepreneurship. But there is a notable difference this year, which is the Innovation Festival. This is a section of Disrupt Asia, that will be open to the public. The festival aims to showcase innovative products, which range from technology to works of art that you can interact with. The goal of this Innovation Festival is to promote innovation itself.
Expect more innovative products at Disrupt Asia 2018
Of course, Disrupt Asia will feature a startup expo this year as well. This is where you’ll see local tech startups showcase their products and services. If the previous year is anything to go by, you can expect a lot of interesting startups attending. But what can you expect at the conference itself?
Similar to previous years, the Disrupt Asia 2018 conference will feature four parallel sessions.
These sessions are – the main stage, stage two, the investor forum, and the workshops.
The main stage is where everything begins with an opening keynote delivered by Glenn Robinson – Managing Director of XLr8 Andhra Pradesh Technology Business Accelerator. It’s also where everything ends with a closing keynote delivered by Nick Marino Jr. Director of Social Change –TangoTab. In between, you’ll find a series of presentations by local and foreign speakers on a variety of topics.

Additionally, you’ll also witness the Disrupt Asia startup battle here. This will be a competition where entrepreneurs will pitch their startups to a panel of judges. The top three startups selected in the preliminary rounds will move towards the Grand Finale, which will take place at Disrupt Asia itself. This year’s winners will receive cash prizes and the chance to participate in the Oslo Innovation Week 2018 in September.

Alongside the events inside the main hall, you’ll also find many sessions happening in parallel. Inside Stage Two, you’ll find another set of presentations conducted by other speakers. And if you’re interested in getting hands-on, there’s going to be a series of workshops as well. Finally, there’s the investor forum, which is exclusively aimed at encouraging and helping local investors to invest in startups.
