A Colombo Municipal Councillor was shot and killed by an unidentified gunman who had arrived on a motorcycle in the Pettah area yesterday, Police Media Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said.
The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Colombo Municipal Councillor Krishnapillai Thirubanandan alias Krishna.
The shooting had occurred around 7.45 am at the junction near Adiwal Street when the victim was inside a fruit shop. The assailant had come on a motorcycle and shot the victim and fled the area.
Pettah Police is conducting further investigations.
