Fallen Madampe MP promoted posthumously

A 29 year old Madampe police constable who lost his life while attempting to rescue others from flooding has been promoted to Sergeant posthumously by the Inspector General of Police, according to Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara.

The constable was reported missing on Friday. The Madampe police, including the constable, had launched a boat in an attempt to rescue sever children who were stranded in the Madampe area and risked being carried away by flood waters. Horrifically, during the rescue attempt, this constable was caught by the current instead, and his body was recovered only this morning by the Navy in the Galmuwura area.
