The Golden Peacock Medal stolen from the late Dr.Lester James Peries’ house during his funeral was found from a private bus last Saturday morning (May 5).
The medal was abandoned on the overhang rack of the Route No. 177 bus running from Kaduwela to Kollupitya, police said.
The bus conductor had spotted the medal, came to the Kollupitiya police with it along with the driver and lodged a complaint.
Dr. Lester James Peries received the medal along with the Golden Peacock Award in 1965 at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) for directing Gamperaliya film.
Investigations are continuing.
