Severe thundershowers above 100mm are expected today especially in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North Western provinces between 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Meteorology Department said.
The Met. Department urged the public to follow instructions given below to avoid hazards which could cause during this weather condition:
- Seek shelter, preferably indoors, covered vehicles and never under trees.
- Avoid open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations and open water bodies during thunderstorms.
- Avoid using wired telephones and connected electric appliances during thunderstorms.
- Avoid using open vehicles, such as bicycles, tractors and boats etc.
- Beware of fallen trees and power lines.
- For emergency assistance contact the local disaster management authorities.
