President, PM meeting next week

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will meet President Maithripala Sirisena next week to continue discussions on the government’s future development plan. The PM has held discussions with President Maithripala Sirisena already after the LG polls. Another round of discussions will be held with the President next week.

PM Wickremesinghe told the media yesterday, that the President has had a meeting with SLFP members and the Joint Opposition as well. Speaking to journalists at Temple Trees, his first appearance since the LG Polls, Prime Minister said the current government will continue. “We accept the results of the Local Government Election as a warning conveyed to us by the voters.” He said the agro based economy hat suffered due to floods and the drought and the cost of living was an issue for the last one year.

“We have fulfilled many of the January 8 pledges, while some are in the process of being fulfilled and some are yet to be fulfilled.”

Answering a question concerning former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, he said if Mahinda Rajapaksa is to come as the Opposition Leader, the Speaker should take up the issue and resolve it.
