The proposal made by Justice Minister Thalatha Athukorala to amend the Criminal Procedure act in order to increase the age of a child responsible for a crime up to 12 years, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
It was also decided to gazette the propose amendment and present in Parliament for approval.
At present the minimum age counted as responsible for crime is 8 years.
