JHU thanks UNF voters

The Jathika Hela Urumaya yesterday expressed its gratitude to the people who voted for the UNP led United National Front at the Local Government Elections held on Saturday.

In a statement, its General Secretary Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, said the results of Saturday’s election showed that people felt that, they as a government, had failed to establish Good Governance (Yahapalanaya) policies pledged during the 2015 Presidential election in a tangible manner.

“A democratic government based on a people’s mandate answerable to the people should always accept the response received from the people in a positive manner and act accordingly.

“It should be emphasised that it was the duty of all parties in government to undertake policy and structural reforms asked by the people.

“A large majority of people flocked behind us in 2015.The results of this election indicated that even after a lapse of three years, a large majority of people had still reposed faith in us despite shortcomings on the part of the government. These people should be our first priority. It should be emphasised that it is the duty of us all to work towards the fulfilment of the hopes and aspirations of the people who voted for the UNP led United National Front without leaving them behind, the statement said.
