ASP who was nabbed soliciting bribe, interdicted

The Assistant Superintendent of Police(ASP) who was arrested recently by the Bribery Commission in connection with allegedly soliciting a bribe from a brothel house owner in the Wennappuwa area, was interdicted by the Inspector General of Police.

According to Police Media Spokesman and Superintendant of Police Ruwan Gunasekera, told the Daily News that the ASP was interdicted by the IGP with effect from February 27, 2018 on the approval of the National Police Commission.

It was further divulged that the suspect ASP had solicited a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a brothel house owner in Wennappuwa that if he wished to continue with the business without any hazard from the police. However, at the time the suspect ASP was trying to receive the bribe, he was arrested by the officers attached to Bribery Commission.

Further investigations are being conducted by the Bribery Commission, while disciplinary action against the ASP are being conducted by Police Headquarters.
