President Maithripala Sirisena has pardoned 510 prisoners serving time in prisons around the country for minor offences on the occasion of Christmas day.
Media Spokesman of the Prison Department Thushara Upuldeniya said 510 prisoners convicted for minor offences were granted Presidential pardon and released from prisons.
Upuldeniya said Christian inmates were given a special opportunity to meet their relatives from 9am to 4pm yesterday.
Special ceremonies were held in prisons throughout the country to celebrate Christmas, he said.
