Over six thousand home gardens in Anuradhapura

Home gardens numbering 6,940 will be established in Anuradhapura to support the national food crops cultivation drive, Anuradhapura Government Agent (GA) R.M. Wanninayake said.

The GA has directed Grama Niladharies, agriculture production and research assistants, economic development officers, and Samurdhi development officers to support in this regard.

Monsoon rains ended the drought and the 2017/2018 Maha cultivation in Anuradhapura district is underway successfully. Every government institute and agency in the district would support the home gardens and contribute maximum to make the venture a success, Wanninayake said.

He said seeds, plants and carbonic fertilizers would be provided to home gardeners. Nearly 15,000 abandoned farm wells would be renovated, he said..

"Heads of departments and divisional secretaries were instructed to convert their office compounds into model home gardens and government servants in the district are encouraged to contribute maximum to the programme," he said.

"We work along with farmers and the public to make the programme a success," Wanninayake said.
