Bus station project in Kamburupitiya still incomplete

Work on the new public bus station building complex project in Kamburupitiya, has not been completed as yet.

According to Southern Provincial Council (SPC) Member Chandana Siribaddana, it would consist of a supermarket complex, offices for SLTB and private bus operators, seperate rest rooms for clergy, men and women, with water and sanitation facilities as well.

A sum of Rs. 660 million has been set apart for the project.

SPC member Chandana Siribaddana said that the previous goverenment initiated this development project. Although several years have passed, the Kamburupitiya Public Bus Stand development activities are still going on at snail’s pace.

Kamburupitiya is a big town in the deep South. Thousands of commuters gather daily in this town in wait for buses. Schoolchildren, teachers and office workers are among them. They have to endure the scorching sun and pouring rain by the side of the main road in the heart of the town while waiting for transport.

People express their concern and dissatisfaction over the inordinate delays on completion of its construction activities. They therefore, request the authorities responsible to expedite the completion of all these activities.

The Maga Neguma National Development Project, Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government, Southern Provincial Council, Southern Provincial Road Transport Authority and Kamburupitiya Pradeshiya Sabha have made financial allocations for this development project, SPC Member Siribaddana further said.
