Airmen in hard fought 15-7 win over Police

Air Force SC dished out a superb second half rally to beat Police SC by 15 points (2 tries, 1 conversion, 1 penalty) to 7 (1 try, 1 conversion) in their Dialog ‘A’ Division inter-club league rugby first round match played at Air Force grounds, Ratmalana yesterday. At half time the winners led 7-0.

Both teams played their hearts out but the Air Force lads showed better co-ordination and their ball handling was excellent than the Police in perfect conditions which turned the match in their favour.

The cops lost the grip midway into the first half as they seemed hampered due to lack of understanding and played well only in patches.

Police SC however staged a spirited performance in the first half by keeping the Airmen down to just one try.

But the Airmen gave a superb brand of running rugby in the second half where they enjoyed major share of possession from the scrums, line outs, set pieces and the break downs to put the Police under tremendous pressure.

Air Force sealed the game by scoring a total of two tries in the entire game through wing forward Radeesha Seneviratne (one) who had an outstanding game both in attack and defence and speedy full back Rumesh Ramdas (one). The solitary conversion and the penalty were slotted in by their reliable place kicker and national centre Charith Seneviratne.

Full back Suranga Kasun scored the only try while former St.Peter’s College captain and Sri Lanka under 19 fly half Sandesh Jayawickrama put over their only conversion.
